The Creeper shows up sparingly and some kills are laughably indirect too, so maybe they didn’t want to pay up more. Why would anyone watch a movie that is only there to advertise that some of these things will get answered later? My only guess as to why they just didn’t do the original future plot they keep propping up in “ 3” is budgetary reasons.Ī lot of the CGI heavy effects are dodgy, and the movie takes place mostly in an overly bright day making them come off as worse. It dips its beak in, but ultimately kind of wastes the chance to have fun with the conceit. The end result is that this movie comes off as fairly boring instead. Since the movie follows the people who have lived in the Creeper’s feeding grounds, it actually could have delved into that more. They’re all just doing too many different things at the same time when any one of them could have made for a fairly entertaining idea on their own. This, however, pulls focus in all directions and makes it impossible to care about any singular plot. While those had a centralized cast, it did help them focus a lot more on the escalating sense of scares and dread. The fact that the movie is segmented between different subplots, in a way the first two never were, is another issue. It all happens off screen or vaguely circled around. There’s extended sequences with some flashbacks and people referencing some past mystery that are never enlightened to us. It makes for an incredibly hazy watch, where you don’t understand what the characters are reacting to or why. Of course, since they clearly still want to tell that story later, they decide not to reveal to the audience anything that is discovered here. Rather than just making it a story about the time period in between the movies, it still wastes time to set up that original plot idea they had. That’s not inherently a bad thing, but the movie goes about in the worst way. It was only really after the movie was finally in production that we learned that it would be an interquel between the first and the second movie. While Cult came out of nowhere as a new installment, Jeepers Creepers 3 has long been said to be about the time period 23 years after the second movie. Much was the same with Jeepers Creepers 3 in that respect, except for a few key differences that I will get into at the end. While the previous “ Chucky” film felt like it was bringing something to the series, Cult felt like an extended prequel to a future sequel. It’s merely just padding time until an inevitable sequel. The reason? Because nothing happens in it. Now, I had planned to write a review for that movie when it was released but couldn’t bring myself to do it. The best comparison that I could make for Jeepers Creepers 3 would be with another horror release this year – Cult of Chucky. The short thrift of it all being that there is some stuff that are actually pretty well done, and then a whole lot of slogging fluff.

Not to say that it was terrible, but it was the type of quality where you have to buffer everything with italics. Looking back, I think I’m glad I waited until it came on TV. Given that it is currently set to be available on VOD in December, this was likely going to be the last time in a while so I made sure to catch it. As with many other viewers out there, this was the first time that I was able to finally see the movie, as I hadn’t been able to catch either of the two “one-day only” screenings earlier in the month. Last night the SYFY Channel broadcast the television premiere of Jeepers Creepers 3 as part of their “31 Nights of Halloween” programming schedule.
